The Rules of the List

1. Everything is subjective.

Checking something off the list doesn’t always mean being literal. I have checked things off when I didn’t do exactly what I had first intended, and I have chosen not to check something off even if I did.

2. I’m not going in order.

Different parts of the list apply to different times in my life. Some items I won’t be able to cross off until I’m much older, and some are regional – I have an entire sub-list for Chicago. I know what I can accomplish in the next year, however, and I’m going to try.

3. The list in its entirety won’t be published.

I discuss different items as I complete them, but the full list isn’t going online. I’ll put the Chicago list up, but the full one will stay on paper where it belongs.

4. Tipping cows.

I refuse to remove anything from my list… except #72, “Tip a cow.” When I created this list years ago, I was not aware that tipping a cow was painful or dangerous for them. I was a West Coast city kid and quite naive. It’s not longer on my bucket list, but everything else stays.
